Common questions

I have just signed up — what should I do first?

Take the diagnostic. It is a short adaptive check, usually around five minutes per section, that finds your current level on each skill. It is not a test and it is not scored against anyone; you can skip any question and come back to it, and there is no timer.

When it finishes, Kennara builds your plan from it: a baseline score estimate, your focus areas in the order that would move your score most, and a schedule across the days you have before your test.

If you would rather just start answering questions, you can — practice works without a diagnostic. It will simply take longer to work out where to aim.

Can I get a guided tour of a page?

Yes. The first time you open a main page, a short spotlight tour highlights the parts that matter and explains each one. You can skip it at any point, and skipping counts as seen so it will not interrupt you again.

Every tour can be replayed as often as you like from the Guided tours list on this page, or from Show me around in your account menu, which starts the tour for whatever page you are on.

What does it mean that questions are verified?

Every question a student sees has been independently checked before it is served. Maths and logic questions are solved again from scratch by a separate symbolic engine, which has to reach the marked answer; code questions are actually compiled and run, and the program output has to match. Nothing is trusted on an AI's say-so.

Reading and writing questions, which have no formula to re-solve, are checked by different models from the one that wrote them — including a reviewer from a different provider entirely — and only published when they all independently agree on the answer. Anything they disagree on is held for a human, never published.

A question that fails any of this is quarantined rather than shown to you.

How does adaptive practice choose my questions?

Practice picks the skill first and the difficulty second. It leans toward the skills that are weakest, most valuable to your score, or due to come back round for review — so your time goes where it moves your score most rather than where you are already comfortable.

Within that skill, the difficulty is matched to your current mastery of it: as your accuracy climbs, the questions get harder. Roughly every sixth question on a skill is deliberately one band above your usual level, so you are never quietly locked at the easy end. Those are labelled when they happen, and getting one wrong costs you very little.

The diagnostic and the short test adapt differently — question by question, and module by module, the way the real exams do.

What is in the Learning Center?

A lesson library covering every exam Kennara offers. Units break into one lesson per concept, and each lesson holds the explanation, the visual, practice on that exact concept, a recap, and your own notes. Where the real exam has a written response, there is an Apply tab with the rubric visible.

Alongside the lessons there are worked examples, flashcards with spaced repetition, concept maps, one-page visual summaries, printable study guides, and — for many units — a short explainer video.

You can read any exam's lessons, whichever exam you are prepping.

What happens after I get a question wrong?

You get the worked explanation, what the question was actually asking, and — where we can tell — what likely went wrong based on the specific answer you chose rather than just the topic. Under that sits A Deeper Dive: the lesson that teaches the concept, its explainer video where one exists, worked examples, tips and memory hooks.

Kennara only claims a pattern once it has seen it more than once. On a first sighting it says a common trap rather than telling you something about yourself it cannot yet support.

How accurate is my score estimate?

It is an estimate built from your answers on this exam, and it is deliberately shown as a range rather than a single number — the range is the honest width of what your answers so far can support. It narrows as you answer more.

Some numbers are hidden rather than shown small. If you have answered too few questions in an area for a percentage to mean anything, Kennara says how many you have answered instead of printing a figure that would mislead. The same rule applies to week-on-week changes.

The estimate is not a prediction of your exam-day score, and Kennara never claims it is.

What can Nara help with?

Nara is the coach built into Kennara. On a question she can walk you through it a step at a time — a nudge first, then narrowing it down, then part of the working, and only then the full solution, so you get as much help as you need and not more. Before you have attempted a question she will offer a hint but not the answer.

On a lesson she answers questions about that lesson. She knows which lesson and which tab you are on, what you have completed recently, and what your plan says next, so asking what should I do after this gets a real answer rather than a general one.

She is grounded in the verified explanation for the thing in front of you, and she will say she cannot answer rather than invent something outside it.

What data does Kennara collect?

What a feature needs and no more: your answers and the time they took, your mastery and plan, your settings, and the account basics. Age is collected as a birth month and year rather than an exact date, because the exact day is not needed for anything.

We do not sell data, we do not run advertising, and we do not target ads at anyone. Kennara is built for an audience that is mostly under 18, so this is architecture rather than policy.

Anything they disagree on is held for a human, never published.

A question that fails any of this is quarantined rather than shown to you.

Practice & tests

Adaptive practice, the diagnostic, short tests, and exam tools.

Start practising →

Can I choose the difficulty myself?

Yes. On the practice setup screen you can leave it adaptive, which is the default, or pick a band directly. Kennara serves the nearest available difficulty in that band from the verified bank.

The bands come from the exam itself where the exam publishes them. The SAT Suite classifies its questions Easy, Medium or Hard, so those are the words you see for SAT and PSAT. Exams that publish no difficulty scale get our own estimated bands, and the screen says which of the two you are looking at.

Difficulty is not offered on a short test, because a mock is meant to model the real exam.

Practice setup →

Can I practise just one topic or unit?

Yes. On the practice setup screen, pick the units you want and the sitting stays inside them. Choose several and it draws from all of them; choose none and you get the whole section.

If a chosen unit runs out of questions, the sitting stays within your selection rather than quietly serving something you did not ask for.

Practice setup →

What is the diagnostic, and can I retake it?

The diagnostic is an adaptive level-finder. It serves a few questions per section, climbing when you are right and dropping when you are not, and stops as soon as it is confident enough. There is no timer, no score shown against anyone else, and you can skip anything and come back to it.

Your first diagnostic sets your baseline, which is the fixed anchor everything else is measured from. You can retake it any time from the Plan tab. A retake creates a new baseline rather than overwriting the first, and it rebuilds your schedule — including discarding sessions you had moved by hand, which the confirmation says before you commit.

Take the diagnostic →My Plan →

How do short practice tests work?

A short assessment has up to six questions and eight minutes per module. SAT and PSAT use two modules per section with a routed second module. This is focused practice, not an official-length simulation; scores are uncalibrated estimates.

The screen is stripped back to the exam shell: a timer you can hide, the tools that exam actually allows, an answer eliminator, Mark for Review, and a question menu. There is no Skip button, because the real exam has none — you move on with Next and the question shows as unanswered in the menu.

You can leave and come back; an unfinished test is saved. AP tests are taken one subject at a time, which is how the real thing works.

Take a short test →

Why is there no calculator on some sections?

Kennara gives you exactly the tools the real exam gives you on that section, and no more. If a section forbids a calculator, none appears — practising with one would not transfer to the day it matters.

Where a tool is allowed you will find it beside the timer: a graphing or scientific calculator, the formula reference sheet, or the code reference for AP Computer Science. The panel can be dragged and resized, and it opens on the side away from the question.

On a few exams the real rules change partway through a section. Where we cannot yet tell which part you are in, we show no calculator rather than risk offering one the exam would not.

Can I pause or stop a practice session?

Pause stops the clock and the question. Done for now ends the sitting: everything you answered is kept and scored, it stops being offered as resumable, and you can start a new one whenever you like. The confirmation says all of that before you commit.

If you close the tab mid-sitting, Kennara saves your place. Home offers to pick it up where you left off.

Can I change an answer?

Before you submit, yes — nothing is locked in until then. After you submit, an answer stands: it is evidence about where you are, and rewriting it would make your own progress less trustworthy.

In a short test you can move back and forth within a module and change anything until the module is submitted, exactly as the real exam allows.

Lessons & the Learning Center

Lessons, videos, flashcards, study guides and the games built from them.

Open the Learning Center →

Where are the lesson videos?

On a lesson's Watch tab, and in the unit's video library. Not every lesson has one yet — where a video has not been made, the tab is simply not there rather than showing an empty player.

When you get a question wrong, the explanation offers the video for that exact concept where one exists, and the unit's library where it does not.

What are the games, and do they count?

Every game is built from material you already have — a crossword from a unit's key terms, a matching round from its definitions, an ordering round from an authored worked example's own steps.

One of them counts: Blitz asks real questions from the verified bank, so those answers go into your practice record and move your mastery exactly as ordinary practice does. The crossword, match-up, ordering and sprint rounds do not touch your score.

The breather is deliberately reward-free. It earns nothing at all, because a break that pays you is not a break.

The Play hub →

Can I run code in the AP Computer Science lessons?

Yes. Those lessons carry a Code tab with an editor and a Run button. Python and JavaScript run entirely inside your own browser — what you type never leaves your device. Java is compiled and run on our side in a locked-down sandbox.

Your edits are kept on that device only, so you can come back to them, and Reset takes two steps so you cannot lose work by accident.

How does marking a lesson complete work?

It is your call and it is reversible — nothing marks itself done on your behalf. It updates the unit's progress bar and the lesson ladder, and nothing else.

No lesson is ever locked. You can read anything in any order.

Review & mistakes

What comes back for review, and how explanations work.

How does review decide what comes back?

Each skill carries its own forgetting curve. Get it right and the gap before it returns grows; miss it and the gap collapses to a few hours. Skills surface on the Review page as they start to fade, which is usually the highest-value few minutes you can spend.

Review also holds every question whose most recent attempt was wrong, and anything you saved for later. The missed list can be searched and filtered by section or skill, so you can work through one area at a time.

Review →

What happens after I get a question wrong?

You get the worked explanation, what the question was actually asking, and — where we can tell — what likely went wrong based on the specific answer you chose rather than just the topic. Under that sits A Deeper Dive: the lesson that teaches the concept, its explainer video where one exists, worked examples, tips and memory hooks.

Kennara only claims a pattern once it has seen it more than once. On a first sighting it says a common trap rather than telling you something about yourself it cannot yet support.

Can I get a report of a session?

Yes. Every practice sitting and every short test ends on a report: your estimate, how the test adapted to you, performance by area and by difficulty, where to focus next, and every question with its explanation.

The report has a Print button, which is also how you save it as a PDF using your browser's own Save as PDF option. What you see in the preview is what prints, and it prints every question in the scope you chose, not just the page you are looking at.

Plan & schedule

Your study plan, your target, and the sessions laid out across your days.

How is my study plan built?

From your own results. Your baseline comes from the diagnostic and never moves; your focus areas are the skills ranked by how much working on them would move your score, not by how easy they are. Each one links to its lesson and to practice on it.

The plan is living. It re-derives from your current mastery whenever you refresh it, and every revision is recorded so you can see how it has changed.

My Plan →

How do I set a target score or test date?

Both live at the foot of the Plan tab. Changing either rebuilds the schedule around the time you actually have, at whichever pace you pick.

You can set a target for individual sections as well as overall. If you do not set section targets, Kennara suggests a split of your overall target and labels it as a suggestion.

My Plan →

Can I move or skip a scheduled session?

Yes — drag it to another day, resize it, mark it done, or skip it, from either the list or the calendar. A session you have moved by hand is respected: nothing automatic overwrites it later.

If a run of sessions has slipped into the past, the Schedule tab offers to give them all new dates in one action, or to keep your own dates. Both are real choices; nothing is lost either way.

Schedule →

Can I put my sessions in my own calendar?

Yes. Add to calendar (.ics) on the Schedule tab downloads a file any calendar app can import. It is a one-way export — changes you make in Kennara afterwards will not sync into it, so re-export if your plan changes a lot.

The file carries session dates and topics only. No scores and no mastery data leave with it.

Can Kennara remind me to practise?

Only if you ask. Reminders are off until you turn them on, and they are email only — there is no push notification and nothing is sent to a phone.

When on, you set the weekly cap and your quiet hours, and a reminder only goes out when there is something concrete to come back to. There is a one-tap off switch in every one. Students under 13 cannot use Kennara at all, and a student under 18 needs a connected parent's consent before reminders can be sent.

Notification settings →

Scores & progress

Your score estimate, mastery, and what the numbers can and cannot say.

Insights →

What do the mastery colours mean?

Each skill carries a mastery score from your answers, weighted so a harder question counts for more. The bands run from needs work through building and on track to mastered, and the legend beside the skill map names each one — colour is never the only signal.

A weak band is not a verdict. It is the engine telling you where practice would pay most.

What is the exam-level ladder on Insights?

It shows the full range of difficulty for your exam, including levels you have not been served yet, so you can see whether you have actually met exam-level questions or only the easier end.

Where a level is missing because your mastery has not reached it, the panel names the mastery that would unlock it. Where it is missing because our bank does not yet hold questions at that level for that skill, it says that plainly — that is our gap, not yours.

Why do the Insights numbers change when I change the range?

The range chips at the top govern every panel on the page at once, so two sections can never be describing different stretches of time. Two weeks, a month, since your baseline, or everything.

One panel deliberately ignores it: the exam-level ladder is always all-time, because whether you have ever met a hard question is a lifetime fact and a two-week window would invent a gap that is not there.

Nara, your coach

What the AI coach does, what it will not do, and how it stays grounded.

What will Nara not do?

She will not counsel or diagnose. If you tell her you are having a genuinely hard time, she responds supportively, points to real resources, and encourages you to reach a trusted adult — she does not try to be a therapist. That behaviour is covered by tests, not left to chance.

She will not discuss things outside what she has been given, will not act on instructions hidden inside a question or a document, and never sees another student's data.

Your conversations with Nara are not shown to a parent or a teacher, and staff cannot read them even while helping with your account.

Nara said something that looks wrong.

Use the this seems wrong control on her reply. It goes into a review queue a person actually works through, and it is the main way explanations get fixed.

The same applies to a question itself, or a diagram that looks inaccurate — there is a report control on both.

XP, streaks & rewards

How progression works, and what it does and does not affect.

How do XP and levels work?

You earn XP for studying — including for questions you get wrong, because showing up to the hard ones is the work. Correct answers earn more, harder ones more again, and there are daily caps so nothing rewards grinding.

Answering the same question again inside a week earns a reduced amount, and diagnostic questions earn nothing at all — a level-finder is not practice.

Levels are a record of effort. They are deliberately separate from the climb bands on your skill map, which track mastery and can move both ways.

The Play hub →

What happens if I break my streak?

Less than you would expect, by design. Rest days you had planned bridge a streak for free. Shields you have earned are spent automatically to cover a day you missed. And a lapse of up to three days can be repaired outright, once a month.

If a streak does end, your record is kept — starting again does not erase the run you had. There is no penalty and nothing is taken away.

What do coins buy?

How Kennara looks, and nothing else. Themes, an accessory for Nara, a decoration on your climb, a celebration style. There are no hints, no extra questions, no score boosts and no head starts for sale, and there is no way to buy coins with real money.

There are also no loot boxes or randomised rewards of any kind.

Rewards →

What are leagues, and who can see me?

A league is an opt-in weekly table of at most twenty people, and you appear in it under a nickname you choose. No real name, email, school, age or avatar is stored with it, and there is no messaging of any kind — a league is a list, not a channel.

Standings are worked out from XP earned that week. There is no relegation and no shaming of any position. Leaving takes one tap and no confirmation, because it must never be harder to leave than it was to join.

Membership runs by the week, so you rejoin whenever you want a new table.

I do not want the game side. Can I ignore it?

Yes. Nothing in the progression layer gates anything: every lesson, question and report works the same whether or not you ever open Play. Quests are derived from your own plan rather than invented, and there is no failed state to be in — an unclaimed quest simply stays unclaimed.

Leagues are opt-in and never join you to anything automatically.

Exams

Which exams Kennara covers, and how switching between them works.

Which exams does Kennara cover?

The SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, ACT, GED, CLT, and Advanced Placement across a wide range of courses. Each has its own diagnostic, its own plan, its own progress and its own question bank — nothing is shared between them except your account.

An exam that is not ready is not offered rather than shown as coming soon.

All exams →

How do I switch exams?

Use the exam control at the top left of any page. Everything follows it: your plan, your practice, your score estimate and your schedule.

Your progress on the exam you leave is kept exactly as it was. Coming back picks up where you left it.

What you can switch to depends on your plan: All-Access and Family move freely, while Single Exam covers one exam and allows one change per billing cycle. Before anything happens, a confirmation tells you what will change, when you could change again, and any cost.

How do I choose which AP course I am prepping?

AP is one exam with many courses, so there is a course control beside the exam switcher. Your dashboard, plan and score estimate all scope to the course you pick, because a real AP score is per course.

Short AP tests are taken one course at a time, which is how the real exam works.

Which PSAT am I prepping for?

There is a grade control beside the exam switcher: PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, or the PSAT/NMSQT. They are the same content on different score scales, and only the NMSQT has a Selection Index.

Picking the right one changes the scale your estimate is reported on, so it is worth setting.

Account & sign-in

Passwords, email, two-factor, avatars and closing an account.

I forgot my password.

Use Forgot password on the sign-in screen and we will email you a secure link. For your security we never say whether an address is registered, so the confirmation looks the same either way.

If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, check spam, and check you are using the address you signed up with.

Reset your password →

I did not get my verification email.

The verification message carries both a link and a typed code — either one works, so if the link is being awkward in your mail app you can type the code into the waiting screen instead.

Check your spam folder first. You can send a fresh one from that screen; the newest code is the one that works.

Can I turn on two-factor authentication?

Yes, with an authenticator app, from your account security page. It is optional for every kind of account, including staff — nobody is forced into it, and students can never be forced into it at all.

There is no SMS option. Text-message codes are the weakest common form of two-factor and would mean collecting a phone number from students we have no other reason to hold.

Account security →

Can I change my email address?

Yes, from your account security page. Both the old and the new address are asked to confirm, which is what stops someone who has borrowed your session from quietly moving your account somewhere you cannot reach it.

Every change of this kind also lands in your own security log, so you can see it happened.

Account security →

How do I delete my account?

Email us and we will delete it. That removes your answers, your progress, your plan and your profile.

If you would like a copy of your data first, ask in the same message and we will send it before deleting anything.

Account settings →

What are interest areas?

Pick the things you are into and Kennara rewrites the scenario in some word problems to match — the same maths, the same answer, a setting you actually care about.

Only the wording changes, and every rewritten question is verified again before it is served. If we have not made a version for one of your interests yet, you simply get the original wording; nothing breaks and nothing is missing.

Parents & guardians

Connecting to a student, what a parent can see, and consent.

I am a parent — how do I connect to my student?

Your student sends you a connection link from their account, valid for 72 hours. Confirming it connects you, which gives you progress reports and lets you handle payment if you want to.

It does not authorise anything on their behalf, and if it expires your student can simply send another.

You can also be invited by a share link, where you enter your own email and the real invitation comes to your inbox — so a student can never approve themselves.

Parent sign-in →

What can a parent see?

Progress and direction: how often your student is studying, how their score estimate is moving, section-level mastery, how closely they are following their plan, and their readiness overall.

Not their conversations with Nara, not individual questions and answers, and not any inference about their mood or state of mind. Support, not surveillance — and the boundary is enforced at the data layer, not just hidden in the interface.

Parent dashboard →

What does parental consent actually control?

It gates payment and the parent connection — not access. A student aged 13 to 17 can use the free parts of Kennara straight away; consent is what allows a paid plan to attach to their account, and what turns on progress reports to you.

You can withdraw it at any time from your account. Withdrawing disconnects you and stops paid coverage and reports; your student's own account and their work continue. Deleting data is a separate request, so nothing is destroyed by accident.

Nobody under 13 can create an account at all.

Children's privacy →

Can I get a weekly progress email?

Yes — turn it on in your parent account under Notifications. It covers activity and progress only, the same boundary as the dashboard.

You can switch it off from the same place, or with the one-tap link in any of the emails.

Parent account →

Teachers & schools

Classes, join codes, rosters and what staff can see.

How do classes and join codes work?

A teacher creates a class and shares its join code. Students enter it when they sign up, or from their account afterwards, and the class's exam becomes their active one on first run.

You can regenerate a code if it gets out, or revoke it entirely. The confirmation tells you what that does to students who have not joined yet before you commit.

Teacher home →

What can a teacher see about a student?

Score and readiness, section-level mastery, how closely a student is following their plan, and how consistently they are working — scoped strictly to that teacher's own class.

Not individual questions and answers, not the misconception diagnosis, and never any conversation with Nara. Teachers also have no way to interact with a student inside Kennara.

How does a school buy Kennara?

Through the schools contact form — tell us the size and shape of what you need and a person will reply. School pricing is contact-led rather than a fixed public price.

Where a school is the one consenting on behalf of students rather than individual parents, that is arranged as part of the agreement.

Plans & billing

Trials, plans, payment, invoices and cancelling.

What plans are there?

Single Exam covers one exam. All-Access covers every exam Kennara offers. Family covers several students under one payer. Each is available monthly, quarterly or annually, and the longer intervals cost less per month.

The prices shown are always read live from our payment provider, so what you see on the page is what will be charged.

Plans & pricing →

How does the free trial work?

It runs for five days. A card is required to start it, nothing is charged on day one where you are eligible, and we email the payer the day before it ends so the first charge is never a surprise.

Cancelling during the trial stops it before any charge.

Plans & pricing →

How do I cancel?

From your billing page, in one step, through our payment provider's own portal — there is no retention flow and nothing to argue past.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. Access normally continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.

If a parent pays, they cancel from their billing page; if you pay for yourself, you cancel from yours.

Can I change plan or payment method?

Yes, both from your billing page. Any difference in price and the exact date and amount of the next charge are shown before a change is confirmed.

Invoices and receipts are available from the same place.

I am under 18 — who pays?

A parent or guardian. A payment form is never shown inside a student account under 18; instead you pick the plan you want and Kennara sends the request to your connected parent, who completes it in their own account.

If you are not connected to a parent yet, choosing a plan walks you through inviting one.

Privacy & safety

What we collect, who can see it, and how to get it out or deleted.

How do I get a copy of my data, or have it deleted?

Email us and we will send you a copy, or delete your account, or both. Say which you want and we will confirm when it is done.

You can also see every time a staff member has accessed your account, from your own security log — including any occasion someone viewed it to help with a support request.

Can Kennara staff see my account?

Only with a stated reason, a second authentication at the moment they do it, and a permanent audit record — and it appears in your own security log, so you can see it happened.

Even then they cannot read your conversations with Nara, and while viewing your account they lose their own administrative powers.

What emails will Kennara send me?

Two separate kinds. Service messages — verification, password resets, security notices, receipts, a note before a trial ends — are part of having an account and are not a mailing list.

Anything marketing is opt-in, off by default, never sent to anyone under 18, and carries a one-tap unsubscribe.

Accessibility & display

Dark mode, dyslexia-friendly text, reduced motion, keyboard use.

What accessibility options are there?

Dark mode, a dyslexia-friendly typeface, and full reduced-motion support — if your device asks for less motion, Kennara drops animation rather than merely shortening it.

Everything is operable by keyboard, controls are real buttons and links rather than click targets that only work with a mouse, and dynamic changes are announced to screen readers. Kennara is built to WCAG 2.2 AA.

Where colour carries meaning, a word carries it too — mastery bands and question states are never colour alone.

Does Kennara work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, in any modern browser — recent Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox — on a phone, tablet or computer. The layout adapts, tap targets are sized for thumbs, and the main destinations sit in a bottom bar within reach.

There is no separate app to install — signing in through your browser gives you everything.

Something is not working

Videos, sign-in loops, missing pages and how to report a problem.

A lesson video will not play.

Reload the page first. If it still fails, the usual cause is a browser extension or a network that blocks video, so try another browser or a different connection.

If it fails everywhere, tell us which lesson — that is a real fault our side and we would like to know.

I hit an error in the middle of a session.

Reload the page. Your answers are saved on our side as you go, so a sitting picks up where it was — you will not have to redo anything.

The most common cause is having had a page open across an update. Kennara now recovers from that automatically, so it should be rare.

I keep getting signed out, or sent back to sign-in.

Check that your browser accepts cookies for kennara.ai — a private window or strict blocking settings will keep ending your session.

If you use a shared device, make sure you are not signed into someone else's account. Kennara always asks which account to use when you sign in with Google, so a shared browser does not quietly pick the wrong one.

How do I report a problem or suggest something?

Use the Feedback button in the corner of any page while signed in. It reaches the team directly and a real person reads every one.

For anything about a specific question, the report control on the question itself is better — it carries the context with it.

Still need help?

Reach our team — a real person reads every message.

Please don't include passwords, full card numbers, government IDs, health details, or other sensitive student information. See our Privacy Policy.
